In TOTAL LAPAROSCOPIC HYSTERECTOMY - The uterine artery is carefully identified and then a cut is made. Bipolar diathermy is commonly used to cut the vessels.

In the surgical management of abnormal uterine bleeding without any presence of a tumour, inflammation or pregnancy in the uterus, in women with large uterine fibroid(greater than 3cm)--- the UTERINE ARTERY EMBOLIZATION is done to prevent heavy bleeding. The visualization and occlusion of the uterine artery through pelvic angiography is done by embolization of the artery which stops the blood flow through uterine arteries. The agent used for embolization of uterine artery is polyvinyl alcohol microspheres which control the bleeding and reduces the size of the fibroid.
